Microsoft Buys Minecraft Maker Mojang for $2.5 Billion (Jay Morales)

In what may be the most unexpected rumor of the year, Microsoft is reportedly close to completing a deal that will see it acquire Mojang AB, better known as the studio that makes Minecraft. Microsoft Corp. is in serious discussions to buy Mojang AB, the Swedish company behind the popular "Minecraft" videogame, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. Note: we'll still use this blog for any Mojang news that's not relevant to Minecraft.

When the deal closes, Mojang will sit within Microsoft Studios, alongside the developers of Halo, Forza, Fable and other franchises.
